What is Little Miso Bookmobile?

Mobile early literacy center

The mission of Little Miso Bookmobile is to promote literacy and lifelong learning by providing equitable access to literacy programs, quality literature and educational resources to keiki aged 0 to 5 and their caregivers in Kaua'i. The organization's mobile outreach initiative carries a small mobile lending library.

Why Early Literacy?

Did you know that 80% of our brains are formed by the time we are 3?

Little Miso Bookmobile provides programs for children aged 0 to 5 and their caregivers. We focus on the first five years noting the important brain developments in the formative years. Our approach focuses on the Every Child Ready to Read practices that pave the way for school readiness.

By reading, writing, singing, playing and talking with our youngest we can boost vocabulary, develop language and prepare our kids so that when they begin school they are ready to learn.

We have the opportunity to support our island's youngest and their families by bringing innovative early literacy programs right into their communities.

Mobile programs will travel across the island.

All programs are free.

Keiki Storytime

Girl In Yellow and White Dress Cutting A Colored Paper

Keiki Storytime supports families to celebrate the love of reading with their youngest. This program invites keiki and their caregivers to participate in reading stories, singing songs and rhymes as well as participate in hands on craft or activities.

By supporting families, we can help them support early literacy at home.

Wee Wiggle Time

Mom Reading to a Baby Child

Wee Wiggle Time is a program for keiki aged 0 to 2 years and caregivers! Our program emphasizes the importance of starting early literacy at birth. During this program, caregivers and their babies will learn literacy tips on how to support their child in language development and instill the love of reading from birth.

Keiki Scientist

Infants and toddlers are incredibly curious by nature. By introducing STEM concepts to early on we can begin to build a foundation for later success in STEM learning.

Book Distribution

Book rich environments allow our keiki to interact with books independently and to make the connection that words and print have meaning.

By partnering with community collaborators, we plan to provide book distribution events in order to help build book rich environments for our keiki across the island.

Please contact us if you would like to sponsor a book distribution.

Little Miso Library

Three kids in daycare with book

During programs, Little Miso Bookmobile carries a small little library where families can borrow books, keep them, love them, bring them back or pass them on!

Books for young children are made to withstand heavy use. Infants discover books by handling them, by chewing on them and by practicing turning the pages. It's a skill that we need to encourage. Damage happens. Here you'll find no fines or fees.
